The Best Road Trip in the Maritimes

1 August, 2019   The best road trip in the Maritimes in Eastern Canada is definitely the route between New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island (PEI), and Nova Scotia – Canada’s Maritime provinces. All three provinces are surrounded by water and connected by the Trans-Canada Highway, ensuring that the majority of your trip is in full […]

Prince Edward Island: The Anne of Green Gables Pilgrimage

26 June, 2017     Prince Edward Island (PEI) has been on my bucket list for a very long time. So, in 2015, when I finally decided to make the trip happen, I was psyched. Particularly since, for me, as for many others around the world who grew up reading Anne of Green Gables, PEI […]

Beginnings and Endings: When you lose someone you Beginnings and Endings:
When you lose someone you love a lot,
you don't ever really lose them
if you focus on what was gained, not lost, or wrong,
for their light shone so bright, so warm, so strong;
and it still does, in your heart.
Your memories of them are your treasure trove,
a gift to cherish all your life,
that you can open up, whenever grief strikes like a knife,
to relive with them in the present;
to be grateful for all the time you shared,
the love you shared; it shows you cared;
to live out the impact of their legacy:
the light you carry forward.
You'll hear them whisper in your ear, imagining what they would say.
You'll see their smile
and feel glad, for a while,
that you had them for the time that you did.
And when we come to accept the cycle of life
- that birth and death are unchanging -
it'll be OK that you'll die, and I too, unfailing.
Let's just not waste the gift of our lives.
A great man was lost over the Christmas holiday... to whom I owe half my DNA.
His light will forever shine bright in my heart
for all that I am is because he gave me my start...
I carry his light forward in gratitude today.

Luminothérapie s'annonce encore à la Place des festivales.
Luminotherapy strikes again at Place des festivales.
This annual, interactive light exhibition in downtown Montréal is intended to make winter more fun by getting people out and about & doing fun things to socialize and lift their spirits.
Did you see the 2021 edition? I like the 2022 edition, but those swings in last year's edition stole the show, and this year's offerings don't even come close. See my next post for a recap of last winter's Luminotherapy exhibition. Then vote in the comments for your favourite!
These stained glass windows are a modern twist on These stained glass windows are a modern twist on traditional church windows because rather than depict scenes from the Bible, they depict scenes from the fields surrounding the town hall back in the 1700-1800s.
And the windows, of course, can be found on Montreal's town hall, or Hôtel de ville, up to this day.
Can you spot the old Bank of Montréal building or the Cathédrale Notre-Dame, the large slanted roof detail of the medieval French architectural era or the Marché Bonsecours? All, including the town hall (but excluding the depicted agricultural fields), can still be found today in the historic district of the city, dubbed Vieux Montréal.
If you're in town and want to learn more about the history of Montréal, you have only to amble down the street from the town hall to the Pointe-à-Caillière museum of archeology to learn more. Easy peasy. And extra intriguing when you still have living history all around you.
The best place to shop for the holidays in Montrea The best place to shop for the holidays in Montreal...
McGill College avenue. Shopping district central. Take the metro green line to the McGill College stop, but don't go outside. That metro stop delivers you directly to the underground city, where you can walk for miles through any number of interconnected shopping malls and shop your heart out.
But do come out at some point for the view. The main avenue looks out towards Mount Royal, the hill after which the city of named, and from this vantage point you can see the famous lighted cross atop the hill, a legacy of the city's (and province's) Catholic past.
The streets outside are a thick, overcrowded mess of every kind of restaurant you can think of, in a city known to have the most number of restaurants per square mile in North America. What this means for you is that after shopping your heart out, you can also eat your heart out. 🛍❤️ 🍜
How's that for spending an afternoon in the city of the royal mountain?
When all you gotta do is lay down and let your mat When all you gotta do is lay down and let your mate take care of you 💖
I love how this monkey is spoiling its partner, reminding us all that there are some things others can do for us that we just can't do for ourselves, so we have to learn to accept help.
And to quote @jennakutcher on her #pod @goaldiggerpodcast - there are some people whose purpose in life is to help us. And if we don't let them help us, we are keeping them from fulfilling their purpose!
